Hampton Court Flower Show Display 2008

We haven’t had time to do June and July news separately so we’ve combined the two. With the show season, we’ve been too busy on the nursery to update the website as you will have noticed.

June saw us do BBC Gardeners World Live show. We got a Silver-Gilt medal for our display in the RHS Floral Marquee. Ben flew off to Rotterdam in the

Once Gardeners World was over we had a three week break before it was off again to Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Luckily this time Ben was there for the whole show. We were a little disappointed with our medal though; we got a Bronze, and felt we deserved a little better. The stand is pictured at the top of the page so we’ll let you decide for yourself.  \  However, the highlight of the show was being featured on the Hampton Court Coverage on BBC2 on the Thursday evening. The feature was about Ben’s move to Twycross zoo and what he was trying to achieve there.

Currently at the nursery we still can’t put our feet up. It’s going to be madness trying to get the nursery, garden and whole site looking it’s best for the regional RHS day which is being held here on Sat 6th Sept. It’s our annual Specialist Plant Fair that will involve 25 local specialist nurseries, arts and crafts stalls and demonstrations. The RHS Hyde Hall team will be here with the RHS advice stand. There are lectures from Bob Flowerdew, Roy Lancaster and Ian le Gros. We’re all looking forward to it but dreading it at the same time.

We have to end this month’s news on a bit of a sad note. As anyone who has visited the nursery will know, we had a female Sarus Crane called Polly, who had a broken leg due to a fox attack. Unfortunately during the week we were at Hampton she died of a heart attack. We get quite a few low flying helicopters and airplanes over the nursery practising manoeuvres and one gave her quite a fright, so she is no longer with us. Things are a little quieter now without her.

middle of the week as part of his job for Twycross Zoo. He attended the European Zoo Group conference for plant conservation. We were very lucky that a family friend, Gill, came and helped Sarah out on the stand at the show for a few days while Ben was off enjoying himself. We were very busy at the nursery too with Jill having quite a few coach trips during that week to cater for, not to mention running the nursery.
