April News |
|
April has been a month of big changes at the nursery. The main one being that Ben will be working away during the week and will only be at the nursery on weekends. He has been offered a job at Twycross Zoo in Leicester as Curator of Horticulture. It is a very exciting role combining two of Bens passions and he is really enjoying it.
This means that Jill and Sarah will be in charge of the nursery’s day to day running. It doesn’t mean Ben won’t be involved, he is home every weekend to tell us all what to do and tell us off if we’ve done anything wrong! It will still be business as usual; you just won’t see Ben as much when you visit.
Everything seems to have sprung into life this month. The garden is starting to look green again. Some of the plants are actually coming to the end of their flowering time, such as the Primulas. The birds are all looking for nesting sites too. We’ve already had the first chicks of the year, with more due to hatch in May.
Our next plant list should be published by mid-May. We had hoped to have it out by mid-April but unfortunately with Ben’s new job and having to re-organise everything, we haven’t been able to produce one yet. This will be the first one of the year to include our full range of plants rather than just our woodland range. Keep checking the website or you can join our email list to receive the list automatically as soon as it is published. Send an email with your name to admin@blackcottnursery.co.uk asking to join the email list. |

The Gravel Beds at the nursery are starting to come into flower with Muscari (left) and Camassia now in bloom. |
